Morning Blót (Simple Offering)

Level: beginner

The blót (Old Norse: sacrifice/offering) is the core practice of Norse paganism — the sacred gift exchange between human and divine. This simplified morning version takes only 5 minutes and grounds you in reciprocal relationship with the gods and spirits.

The rite, step by step

  1. 1

    Prepare

Fill your cup or horn with your offering. Light a candle if available. Stand or sit at your altar or a clean, clear surface.

  2. 2

    Center

Take three slow breaths. Feel your feet on the ground — you are standing in Midgard, between the roots of Yggdrasil and the stars.

  3. 3

    Hail the Worlds

Raise the cup and speak aloud (or in a whisper):

  4. 4

    Name Your Intent

Speak to whichever god you are working with today, or to your ancestors. Be specific. What do you offer? What do you seek?

  5. 5

    The Offering

Drink half your cup. Pour the remainder into the earth outdoors, or into an offering bowl. This is the sacred exchange — you share the gift.

  6. 6

    Close

Pause in silence. Listen. Then simply say:
