On Humility

Battiscombe Gunn, 1906

If thou art powerful among men, and dost prosper through the favour of the great, be not exalted of heart at what is given to thee, for it is the gift of God who causes thee to advance. Wish not to make thyself superior in everything; make thyself known through thy competence alone. He who relies on his own power shall be cast down, but he who waits on God shall endure.
