Bring the library into your reading conversation.
An assistant that supports remote MCP connections can search The Old Ways and retrieve passages with links back to the website. The collection covers Norse, Greek, Egyptian, Celtic and Zoroastrian traditions. Website reading and this public connection require no account or app purchase.
Connect
Add a remote MCP server in your assistant’s connection settings. Use this address with Streamable HTTP:
https://mcp.theoldways.co/mcp
No sign-in or API key is required. Connection availability depends on your assistant and plan. Adding a connection gives that assistant access to these tools; it does not automatically make this library available to every assistant or search engine.
What you can ask for
- Search the library: find historical texts, book pages, deity profiles, glossary entries and editorial explanations. You can limit results by tradition and content type.
- Read a passage: retrieve a section of an indexed page with its canonical citation URL. Longer pages can be read in successive sections.
- Browse collections: list the available books, traditions and the date the search index was built.
For example: “Find the Hávamál in The Old Ways library, read a passage about hospitality, and cite the page. Distinguish the edition’s wording from your interpretation.”
Check the evidence
The library includes historical works, older translations and later retellings. Reference pages also contain editorial summaries and modern practical guides, including material prepared with automated assistance. A recorded book reference is not a checked passage citation. Imported editions can contain transcription errors; compare surrounding passages and other editions when wording matters.
Search uses a periodically rebuilt word index rather than live web search. Newly corrected pages may take time to enter the index. The index date is not a historical text’s publication date. Known malformed imports and pages excluded from indexing are omitted. Read our source and editorial policy and reading guide.
Privacy and support
The tools only retrieve public reading material. They cannot sign in to an account, change content, purchase anything or access the iPhone app. Queries are processed on Cloudflare; we do not add application request logging or send them to a separate AI provider. Cloudflare may process operational and security information under its own policies. Your assistant provider’s own processing and conversation policies also apply. Avoid putting private information in search queries.
See the website privacy policy and terms. To report an error or connection problem, contact [email protected] with the relevant public page URL.
For developers and other readers, the text directory lists the site’s main reading routes. Publishing these access routes does not guarantee a search ranking or an assistant recommendation.
