What Ingwaz means

Ingwaz is the rune of the god Ing (Yngvi-Freyr), the Vanic deity of fertility, agriculture, and sacred kingship. Its enclosed shape represents the seed, the egg, and the potential energy held within before it is released into manifestation. In Heathen practice, Ingwaz signals a period of gestation and internal growth, a time when something is developing within that is not yet ready to emerge. It represents the completion of one cycle and the gathered potential for the next. Ingwaz cannot be reversed, for the seed always holds its promise.

Ingwaz in the historical rune poems

Three medieval poems preserve the meanings of the runes — the oldest testimony we have.

Ing was first seen by men among the East-Danes, till, followed by his chariot, he departed eastwards over the waves. So the Heardingas named the hero.
