What Uruz means

Uruz embodies the raw, untamed strength of the aurochs, the wild ox of ancient Europe. This rune speaks to primal vitality, physical health, and the formative forces of nature. In Heathen practice, Uruz represents the power of manifestation and the courage to face life's challenges with the ferocity and endurance of the aurochs. It is a rune of endings that lead to new beginnings, the necessary destruction that clears the way for new growth. Drawing Uruz calls upon the deep reserves of strength within.

Uruz in the historical rune poems

Three medieval poems preserve the meanings of the runes — the oldest testimony we have.

The aurochs is proud and has great horns; it is a very savage beast and fights with its horns; a great ranger of the moors, it is a creature of mettle.
Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem
Dross comes from bad iron; the reindeer often races over the frozen snow.
Norwegian Rune Poem
Drizzle is the weeping of clouds, and ruin of the hay-harvest, and abomination of the shepherd.
