Hymn 13 — To Demeter (Persephone)

Hugh G. Evelyn-White, 1914

I will sing of Persephone, the fair-faced daughter of Demeter, bride of the Lord of Many, who was carried off by Aidoneus while she was playing with the daughters of Ocean and gathered bright flowers in a soft meadow — roses and crocuses and beautiful violets, irises also and hyacinths. Let her and the dark-robed lord together be gracious to me as I remember them in my hymn.
