Hymn 18 — To Hermes (short)

Hugh G. Evelyn-White, 1914

I will sing of Hermes, the son of Zeus and Maia, lord of the Cyllenian hill, the ready messenger of the gods, whom Maia, the beautiful nymph of the waving hair, bore on a mountain height. Hermes led forth from the cave the lyre he had fashioned and played and sang, teaching mortals music and craft and the thieving of cattle.
